Car driver killed & bus driver & passengers injured in a road traffic accident
In a bus and car crash accident in North Devon on Wednesday, the driver of the car was killed. The two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions on a 60mph stretch of road at Shillingstone. The road runs between Blandford and Sturminster Newton.
The bus was a single decker operated by Damory Coaches, the car involved was a Ford Fiesta.
The Somerset air ambulance attended the accident scene and took the bus driver to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester. The car driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The female bus driver suffered minor injuries and was discharged from hospital.
Fire Crews from Blandford and Sturminster also attended the crash accident scene.
At the time of the accident, there were eight passengers on the bus, of these five were reported to have suffered injuries. A police spokesman described the injured bus passengers as “walking wounded”.
The road had to be closed for several hours following the road accident, so police could carry out their investigations.
