Cycling accident due to pothole causes injury to child

Filed under: Cyclist Compensation Claims — admin @ 8:47 am

When out cycling with a friend, a boy was injured when his bike hit a pothole, causing him to be thrown over the handle bars into metal railings.

Kieran Smith, aged twelve of Exwick in Exeter, required hospital attention due to the cycling accident as it caused bruised ribs, black eyes and cut lips.

Kieran’s dad, is not happy with the council who have left the potholes unrepaired in Kinnerton Way, Exwick, Exeter, where the cycle accident happened.

He feels his son could have sustained much worse injuries from his accident.

As he hit the railings with such force, it was described his injuries looked like he had done 12 rounds in a boxing ring.

A spokeswoman from Devon County Council went to inspect the pothole which caused the cycle accident, and said ” We have been to inspect the area and do not consider the small hole to be a safety defect.”

For accidents and injuries caused by potholes, often a claim for injury compensation is made by the injured party. We can advise if a claim for tripping on a pothole, or whether a claim for an accident caused by cycling into a pothole can be made.

The child cycling accident happened on Thursday when the boy who is thought to be 10 or 11 was cycling along a footpath in an area which is known as Dewsbury Scar. He then fell on the steep bank and landed on rocks which were fifty feet below.

The boy needed to be rescued by the fire brigade, other emergency services also attended the scene. The boy was then taken to Dewsbury Hospital with what was suspected to be a broken ankle due to falling.

A Dewsbury fire station spokesman said he was ” lucky not to have been in a worse state”.

Cyclist has accident due to pothole in road

Filed under: Cyclist Compensation Claims — admin @ 7:59 am
A cyclist was injured whilst on his way to the shops. The cycling accident happened when he fell from his cycle when it hit a pothole in the road. The cyclist suffered multiple injuries including a broken arm and wrist. The injured cyclist Luke Reedman, 28, is making a cyclist accident compensation claim for injuries. The cycling accident claim is being made against the local council.
The cycling accident has left Mr Reedman with a metal plate in his arm following extensive surgery at hospital. He now believes that his arm will never be the same.
It is believed the pothole in the road has been there for some time and Mr Reedman had avoided it on numerous occasions.  One evening he didn’t see the pothole and subsequently hit it causing his injuries.
The injuries have left the keen cyclist with nerve damage and he has numbness in his palm.

The cycling accident has meant Mr Reedman has had to take time off work and has lost wages as a result.

Mr Reedman has said “The road is supposed to be a priority route and inspected once a month. I feel upset and angry that I have been left with an injury which will be with me for the rest of my life”.

Cyclist claims compensation for accident

Filed under: Cyclist Compensation Claims — admin @ 7:57 am

Cyclist injury compensation claims are common against drivers of cars who fail to see them, or are driving in a dangerous manner not paying attention to the road.

Cyclists can often be knocked off their bike by a passing vehicle as they get hit by a wing mirror. This is what happened to a lady cyclist who is making a cyclist injury claim for a non fault accident.

The lady, Tara Butterfill who is 32, has been left permanently disabled in the cycling accident, is looking to claim £300,000 in accident compensation. As she was cycling, she was hit in the back of the head causing serious life threatening injuries. She suffered a brain hemorrhage and a fractured skull. These injuries resulted in a week in intensive care.

The injuries suffered by the cyclist were so severe that doctors told her that if she had been hit by the vehicle travelling one mile an hour faster, it would be almost certain that she would have been killed.

The injuries have left the mother of two with difficulties with her memory and concentration. She is also suffering from mood swings.

The injuries have seriously affected her family life.

The cyclist accident was caused by a driver in a works vehicle. The driver was given a fine and six points on his licence.

Cyclist attacked in an alleyway at night

Filed under: Cyclist Compensation Claims — admin @ 5:21 pm

A cyclist was viciously attacked in an alleyway in Basingstoke by three men in the early hours of 23rd February. The man was punched by one man and then attackers demanded he give them his possessions. He offered his bike which was refused. The attackers finally ran away empty-handed leaving the shaken victim to recover.

The facial injuries suffered meant the victim needed to go to hospital for medical attention. The police were informed and are asking for witnesses to come forward.

It is unknown if the injured cyclist is to pursue an injury compensation claim for the facial injury suffered.

Cycling should be safe, regardless of the time of day. This attack highlights the potential dangers to anyone out alone at night. All cyclists and pedestrians should take extra care especially at night when they are alone in potentially dangerous areas such as alleyways. Some cyclists and pedestrians carry personal attack alarms at night to try and warn off attackers, should they suddenly become a victim of assault.

Injured Cyclist Claim

Filed under: Cyclist Compensation Claims, Road Traffic Accidents — admin @ 11:24 am

Cyclists have enough to contend with due to the amount of traffic on the roads. On many occasions a cyclist accident happens due to a badly maintained road surface.

An injured cyclist claim we have recently handled involved the male cyclist being thrown over the handlebars when his front wheel went into a hole in the road.

The hole was running alongside a curb which had recently been put in place, but the surrounding area was not filled in by the workers leaving a very dangerous hazard.

The injured cyclist claim was due to a broken collar bone.

If you have suffered an accident as a cyclist due to the poor road surface, you should take photos of the area and then report it to the local authority.

To make it possible for us to work on the cycling accident claim, the injuries must be sufficient to require medical attention.

Claims for injured cyclists are handled by our specialist injury claims solicitors on a No Win No Fee basis. You will not be asked for any money at any time and upon winning the claim, 100% of the awarded compensation will be paid out.

Cycling accident claims should be made within three years of the accident happening.
