Compensation payout for injured cyclist
A cycling accident has resulted in a cyclist receiving injury compensation from the Borough of Poole. The cyclist hit the back of a temporary road sign when it was dark at around 5.15am on 14 August 2007, which he said was unlit and in the cycle lane. The man had a strong light on his bike at the time but it was too late to take action to avoid hitting the sign. The man was cycling to work at the time. He was awarded £5,000 in compensation.
The cycle accident left the Bournemouth man in severe pain and unable to walk properly, the injury which involved muscle and tendon damage to his legs and groin. He also suffered cuts to his elbow and fortunately he was wearing a helmet which was split in two. the injured cyclist required a day in hospital and then had to use a zimmer frame for a number of weeks followed by walking sticks for around 10 week. A brain scan was also carried out.
The man who is a registered carer for his wife, had his life severely disrupted by his cycle accident.
