A factory accident has left an employee injured who then went on to successfully make a factory accident claim for compensation.

The man, William Jones, 46, was injured when a work colleague decided to jump on his back while he was bent down picking up a tool. This was done as a prank.

A popping noise was heard at the time by Mr Jones. A spinal fusion operation was carried out to repair the damage to his back. This injury has meant that Mr Jones has not been able to work since the prank took place.

Mobility problems now mean that Mr Jones has to rely on family and friends on a daily basis.

The accident in a factory happened in 2006, with the claim for compensation being finalised this week. An undisclosed figure was awarded.

Mr Jones had worked in Peterlee for TRW Systems car parts factory for 21 years prior to his workplace accident. As he was unable to return to work for more than four years due to his injury, he was made redundant.

There has been a recent case where a chicken company worker operating a chicken de-skinning machine skinned his own hand in a terrible accident at work.

The employee was working for Crown Chickens which is situated in Norwich.

Crown Chickens Ltd admitted two breaches of the Health and Safety at work act. They were fined a total of £8,000, £4,000 for each incident and also had to pay £5,500 in costs.

HSE said; “These two incidents resulted in very serious and painful injuries to both men. What is more, both could have easily have been avoided if Crown Chicken had taken the correct health and safety procedures.”
