Rear seat passenger left in car by driver after car crash
In a traffic accident on November 27, a teenage drink-driver crashed a car then left the scene with her rear seat passenger frightened and trapped in the car.
The injured car passenger was planning to get a taxi home after a night out in Camberley, then saw her friend Cooke. She climbed into the rear seat as Cooke’s boyfriend was a front seat passenger.
They travelled towards the roundabout near McDonalds in Farnbrough and the injured passenger said Cooke’s boyfriend was telling her to slow down as there was ice on the road and she was driving far too fast. The driver lost control of the car and hit metal railings.
The injured rear seat passenger said the front seat slid back trapping her and the car was filling with smoke. She said the driver left the car and started running from the crash scene. She was banging on the car window and Cooke’s boyfriend then released her before running away.
The emergency services attended the scene. The police found Cooke in the garden of her house and a breath test proved positive. Cooke was found to be over the legal drink drive limit, with 65 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the limit is 35.
Katherine Cooke, the drink driver, appeared at Aldershot Magistrates’ Court on December 9 and was banned from driving for 18 months.
