In a road traffic accident on Wednesday at approximately 5.50pm, in Thornley Lane Winlaton, Gateshead, the 20 year old driver of a Ford Fiesta hit a tree and then hit a hedge. As a result he suffered head injuries, was knocked unconscious and suffered a cardiac arrest.

The young driver was cut from the car by the fire service from Gateshead North, put on a spinal board and taken to Newcastle General Hospital by air ambulance, where he is said to be in a critical condition.

In a horrific car crash accident 16 year old Sian Ryan was killed when travelling as a front seat passenger. Sian from Ipswich was travelling in the Citroen Saxo when the car span out of control, crashing into a road sign on the A14 at Nacton on 17 August last year.

Perri Daniel and Gavin Sahota were both found guilty of dangerous driving which killed the teenager.

At Ipswich Crown Court yesterday, Sahota,19, from Kesgrave and Gavin, 20, from Ipswich were sentenced to three years in a young offenders’ institution.

The two were also disqualified from driving for a period of three years.

The two drivers, Sahota in an Audi A3 and Daniel in a Citroen Saxo, were performing dangerous undertaking manoeuvres and weaving accross the road. The two cars crashed. The pair only had around seven months combined driving experience.

Sian’s mother Chrissie Ryan has said the case should act as an important message to other young drivers in control of a “lethal weapon”.

Sian was a former pupil at Copleston High School, Ipswich.

Every year thousands of car accidents happen causing injury or fatalities to drivers and passengers, many can be easily avoided by safe driving.

Drunk teacher drives dangerously and avoids jail

Filed under: Road Traffic Accidents — admin @ 7:22 am

In an incredible case of dangerous driving, a teacher, Catherine Dean, 42, was driving north on the southbound side of the A1 at around 70 mph. The teacher was making other cars and lorries swerve out of her way to avoid what could have been a serious traffic accident. The roads were very icy and slippery at the time, and she was said to be swerving all over the road between the lanes. Police caught the driver after she drove a 4 mile stretch of the road. The driver was breathalyzed and found to be nearly three times over the drink drive limit.

In Nottingham Crown Court, Dean from Rossendale Lancashire, informed the judge she only got behind the wheel as she suffered an asthma attack and was looking for a hospital. The judge accepted the excuse and chose not to jail her. The police were said to have found an open bottle of wine in the car.

The teacher was given a 12 month jail sentence, suspended for two years. She is banned from driving for eighteen months, she has a curfew between 7pm and 6am for a six month period and was ordered to do eighty hours unpaid work.

The road safety charity Brake described the decision made by the judge as”outrageous.”

One in six deaths on the road are caused by drunk drivers. These drivers not only risk their own lives but also those of the innocent drivers and passengers who are driving in a safe manner.

Every year thousands of people are injured in a traffic accident due to non fault accidents. We can be contacted on 0845 10 88 333 or by clicking: Traffic Accident Claim.

Fatal road traffic accident & injury compensation claim

Filed under: Road Traffic Accidents — admin @ 9:57 am

There are sadly numerous people who suffer fatal road traffic accidents every year, of which a large number are due to third party negligence.

There has been a case where a family lost their mother and were awarded £625,000 injury compensation.

The mother (Sasha Roberts) from Lewes was driving on the M2 motorway with her son, Lio who was four at the time in 2006. An articulated lorry hit her car. As a result the mother died and Lio is left with brain damage and life threatening injuries.

The driver of the lorry driver was foreign and was driving dangerously at the time of the accident. He was sentenced to thirty months in prison. The driver and his employers will be paying the compensation to the mother’s husband.

The mothers husband (Dr Spinelli) has expressed great disappointment with the compensation award saying it is “woefully inadequate.” He has also stated “we have forgiven the lorry driver, but we cannot forgive the broken legal system that neither protects nor serves as well as it promises.”
