Child injured in Leisure Centre accident

Filed under: Sport Injury Claims — admin @ 12:20 pm

A boy was injured when a goal post fell onto his fingers as he was playing in the gym with friends. The child suffered severe hand injuries because the leisure centre staff had not checked to ensure the goal post was secured to the wall.

There were adults in the area at the time and witnessed both the accident and the lack of securing. The accident was reported to the leisure centre staff and details logged in their accident book.

The child was taken to hospital where xrays were taken and a broken finger as well as soft tissue damage was diagnosed. These injuries affected the child at school as writing was very difficult  and he was in a lot of pain.

We were contacted as a claim for injury compensation against a leisure centre was to be made.

Any claims against a leisure centre which we handle are done so on a no win no fee basis.

Claims for accidents in a leisure centre for adults must be made within three years of the accident, for chilrens accidents, the timescale is extended. We usually find claims are made sooner rather than later, this often means the informaation which is required to claim is more readily available.

For a child accident claim which is won, the compensation is held in trust until they are eighteen.

When attending a sports lesson you should be able to do so safely. If you or your children suffer an accident and were injured, if you believe the accident was not your own fault an accident claim after being injured in a sports lesson may be possible with the help of the Accident Advice Bureau.

We have recently accepted a case where our client, a young boy, was in the sports hall of a local school about to start his football training.

While he was in the sports hall there were two other boys who picked up the steel goal posts in order to move them so they could fetch a safety mat. They had to do this as the hall was not set up for their training to start. As the boys moved the goal posts it fell over hitting the boy heavily on his right leg.

The boy screamed in pain and it was only then that one of the two coaches came to see what had happened. At the time of the accident the two coaches were not present in the sports hall and offered no supervision to the setting up process.

Following the accident the coaches offered no first aid, even though he was bleeding. The boy’s parents were not informed voluntarily.

At the end of the training session the clients Grandfather came to pick him up. The coaches were not going to mention the accident to him. It was the boy who told them to get his Grandfather so they could tell him what had happened.

They described it as a minor accident and did not feel that they needed to take any action.

The coaches were asked why the children were setting up, as with all the other classes elsewhere he has been to the hall has already been set up, so lessons can start straight away. The coaches said this was because they liked to encourage independence, but as stated before they offered no supervision.

The boy was taken to hospital by his Grandfather and was diagnosed with an open fracture to his right leg. His injuries are expected to last for at least 7 months.

Accident claim for a spectator at sporting event

Filed under: Sport Injury Claims — admin @ 8:19 pm

Spectators at sporting events should be safe when using the facilities supplied by the venue and the premises should be in line with all health and safety standards.

Accidents at sporting events may be as a result of slipping or tripping in the clubhouse or from faulty seats supplied for the spectators to use. Others could be from defects in the car park or in the ground which should have been repaired. In addition lighting should be sufficient in all areas.

A claim from a spectator accident was made by a lady who was unexpectedly injured in the stand when she went to watch a football match. On entering the spectator stand the lady kept low to avoid hitting her head. Having watched the football match she then stood up to leave and forgot the roof was so low, she hit her head, this accident caused a severe cut to the top of her head which required stitches at hospital.

The accident was reported to the football club and recorded in an accident book.

The spectator accident claim was accepted as it was felt the spectator stand was dangerously low. The claim was handled on a no win no fee basis by an injury solicitor provided by the Accident Advice Bureau. The lady was advised that on winning 100% of the compensation will be paid out. No costs are payable should the claim be lost.

Accident in a Gym

Filed under: Accident in a Gym,Sport Injury Claims — admin @ 6:55 pm

An accident in a gym could due to a number of reasons, and many are caused by the negligence of gym staff.

When attending the gym, it should be enjoyable and your safety should not be in danger due to staffing errors or equipment defects.

One accident in a gym happened as staff members failed to correctly put away matting which was left in a dangerous place. This caused the gym member to fall over them as they were not seen, resulting in a severely broken arm. The accident was recorded in the accident book and witnessed. An accident in a gym compensation claim was made, and won, awarding the injured gym member compensation for the injuries.

Gym accidents can also happen when playing football. A case our injury solicitors won involved a child who was enjoying an indoor six a side match when the goal fell onto him as it was not secured. The other goal was secured to the wall and floor, the gym staff should have ensured the safety of the players and equipment before the game started.

Leisure Centre Compensation Claims

Filed under: Slip Trip Accident,Sport Injury Claims — admin @ 2:52 pm

A leisure centre accident claim for compensation can be made by any member of the public or staff if the accident and injury is as a result of negligence by the leisure centre.

Leisure centres have a responsibility to adhere to health and safety to ensure the well being of the public and staff at all times.

A leisure centre accident claim has been made by a member of the public who suffered an injury in the showers. Following a swimming session the man went to have a shower. The shower drain was blocked and this caused the plastic grill which sits above the drainage channel to lift and float. This was then trodden on as it was not noticed and caused a slip in the showers. The man suffered several injuries which were reported to the leisure centre immediately.

Having seen the doctor and being diagnosed with soft tissue injuries a leisure centre claim for compensation was made through us.

Accident compensation claims against a leisure centre are handled on a no win no fee basis and upon winning the claim, 100% of the compensation will be paid out.

To make a claim for being injured in a leisure centre please call 0800 814 0014 or claim online by clicking: Accident in a Leisure Centre.
