Freak accident kills founding member of Electric Light Orchestra
In a freak accident Mike Edwards, 62, the cellist of the 70′s group ELO was killed in his van when a 600kg bale of hay careered down a slope and landed on the roof. The hay smashed through a hedge before hitting his van.
It is believed he swerved his van and hit another vehicle in the accident. Police have said the driver of the other vehicle was not hurt in the accident.
The traffic accident happened on the A381 Harbetonford and Halwell near Totnes in Devon at approximately 12.30 on Friday 3rd September.
Police are making investigations to the cause of the accident. It is a possibility that the hay could have fallen from a tractor working in the field but this is not known at this time.
It is thought that Mr Edwards may have a brother in Yorkshire who police are trying to contact. Other than that he does not appear to have any other family.
