Medical negligence leaves man infertile

Filed under: Medical & Clinical Negligence — admin @ 1:10 pm

A medical blunder has left a man infertile after going into hospital for an operation on his testicle. The man who was treated in West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds had part of the wrong testicle removed before the medical staff noticed their mistake.

The surgeons operating on the man needed to remove the epididymis, which is a tube used to store mature sperm. The medical mistake meant that they removed the right side instead of the left. The operation had to continue as the man still needed the correct side to be operated on.

Having removed both sides the man will be left infertile opening the door to a possible claim for medical negligence to be made.

Following the medical mistake, an investigation has been launched and as a result more stringent safety procedures have been introduced to prevent other medical errors of this type.
